Cyclone Mocha: IMD Warns of Possible Low Pressure System on May 8, Odisha Districts Brace for Heavy Rainfall
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning about a possible low pressure system that may form over the Bay of Bengal on May 8, which could lead to heavy rainfall in several districts of Odisha.
The IMD has said that the low pressure system is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm named 'Mocha' over the Bay of Bengal, which could bring strong winds and heavy rainfall to the coastal areas of Odisha, West Bengal, and Andhra Pradesh. The IMD has also advised fishermen not to venture into the sea from May 7 to May 10 due to the rough weather conditions.
Odisha Districts on High Alert
Several districts of Odisha, including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, and Ganjam have been put on high alert in anticipation of the cyclone. The state government has also issued a warning to people living in low-lying areas to be cautious and prepared for evacuation in case of flooding or landslides.
Preparedness Measures
The Odisha government has taken several measures to prepare for the cyclone, including setting up control rooms, deploying teams of rescue and relief personnel, and stocking up on essential supplies. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has also deployed several teams to the state to assist in rescue and relief operations.
"We are fully prepared to deal with any eventuality. All necessary measures have been taken to minimize the damage and ensure the safety of people," said Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
While the IMD has not yet predicted the exact path of the cyclone, it is important for residents in the affected areas to stay informed about the weather conditions and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
