Geeta Phogat and Wrestlers Arrested en Route to Protest Against Sports Code in Delhi

Several wrestlers gathered at Jantar Mantar in Delhi to protest against the newly introduced sports code by the government. However, the protest took a dramatic turn when Geeta Phogat, one of the most prominent wrestlers in India, was reportedly taken into custody by the Delhi police before she could even reach the protest site.

Phogat expressed her disappointment and anger towards the Delhi police in a series of tweets, claiming that she was forcefully taken into custody and treated poorly. She also accused the police of violating her fundamental rights and preventing her from exercising her right to peaceful protest.

The protest was organized to demand changes in the sports code that has been introduced by the government. The wrestlers argue that the new code is unfair and will negatively impact their careers. The code includes provisions that require athletes to dis
close their assets and income, and also mandates that they cannot hold positions in sports federations while actively competing.

The wrestlers argue that these provisions are unfair and will hinder their ability to make a living from the sport. They also claim that the code was introduced without proper consultation with the athletes and that their concerns were not taken into consideration.

The protest has gained support from several other athletes and sports personalities, who have taken to social media to express their solidarity with the wrestling community. However, the incident involving Geeta Phogat has raised concerns about the police's handling of the situation and the extent to which protesters are being allowed to exercise their right to peaceful protest.
